About HabitShift
Larry Birckhead, M.A. (Psychology), began his post-college work life managing a prison cell block of 125 felons and 13 prison guards helping establish a "community living" concept in corrections. He was “paroled” into community mental health providing short term, crisis intervention counseling to families whose children were referred from the juvenile justice system, and capped his work in the field providing addictions treatment as a therapist in a Seattle-area methadone maintenance program.
After a brief career in sales, he served as corporate trainer, organizational development consultant and manager, and business owner. While making his living as an independent consultant and trainer for the last 18 years, he began an in depth study of the structure of successful human change and has synthesized techniques from several areas of practice into what he calls HabitShift which he teaches in the areas of fitness, wellness, work/life balance, and mindfulness-based safety performance and stress reduction.

I began the HabitShift workshop feeling nearly hopeless about what I wanted to change (weight loss). How could four days make a significant difference when I had been struggling with this problem for decades? Attending the HabitShift workshop was certainly useful in looking at and dealing with habits that I have been unable to shift completely. Some of the tools and techniques that were used initially didn’t seem to have any impact, however, in sticking with the process I began to see new ways to approach my desired habits/patterns that really made a difference for me.
